Examples of rotary motion
Wheel and ferriswheel
Examples of oscillating motion
Pendulum and swing
What are gears?
Gears are wheels with teeth that transmit rotary motion. When two or more gears mesh it is called a gear train. There are two types of gear train, simple and compound
What is a rack and pinion gear?
This converts rotary motion into linear motion
What is a warm and wheel gear?
This is usually found in a electric motor. The warm is made up of a big spiral. One rotation of the warm means the wheel moves by one tooth.
What are Bevel gears?
These are cone shaped and can be found in the workshop on the hand drill. The cone shape or bevel allows them to transmit motion through right angles (90 degrees)
