Motion and Forces Flashcards
Name the vectors we need to know
- Displacement
- Velocity
- Force
- Weight
- Momentum
- Acceleration
Name the scalars
- Mass
- Speed
- Distance
- Time
- Energy
What is the formula for acceleration?
change in velocity/time
How do you use light gates to find speed?
Take 2 light gates. Measure the distance between them. Light gates measure the time to go through both gates. Use distance/time formula
What is the acceleration in freefall?
10m/s^2
What is newton’s first law?
An object has a constant velocity unless acted upon by a resultant force
What happens when a resultant force is 0 on an object
The object is either moving at a constant velocity or at rest
What happens when an object has a resultant force acts upon an object?
The object changes velocity, speed, direction or both
What is Newton’s second law?
F = m × a
AND
force = change in momentum / time
How is weight measured, two ways
- Force scales
- Weighing scale
Weight equation
W = m x g
How many kg is 1 newton?
0.1kg
What is centripetal force?
A resultant force that allows motion to occur in a circle. The centripetal force acts towards the centre of the circle
What is inertial mass?
How difficult it is to change the velocity of an object
What is the formula for inertial mass?
F/a
