Motion Flashcards
How do we calculate speed?
Speed = distance \ time
What does the slope on a distance time graph represent?
Speed.
The steeper the Gradient on a distance time graph the….
The greater the speed.
If the line on the distance time graph is horizontal what does it mean?
The object is stationary.
It the line on a distance time graph is curved what does it mean?
The objects speed was not constant.
What is velocity?
Speed given in direction.
What is acceleration?
An objects change in velocity per second
Does an object travelling at 30m/s North have the same velocity as an object travelling at 30m/s south?
No, their directions are different.
What is acceleration measured in?
M/s^2 (metres per second squared)
How do we calculate acceleration?
Acceleration = change in velocity / time
What is deceleration?
Negative acceleration, (an object’s velocity is decreasing)
What does the slope on a velocity time graph mean?
Acceleration
What does it mean if the line on a velocity time graph is horizontal?
The object travelled at a constant velocity.
How do we represent deceleration on a velocity time graph?
With a negative gradient.
How do we work out distance travelled from a velocity time graph?
The area under the slope.
