Squash, stretch, move, accelerate, pull or push objects
What is a resultant force?
All the forces acting on an object represented by one arrow.
What does it mean if a resultant force of an object is 0?
The object is - stationary or continues to move at the same speed and direction it was moving.
What is happening to the object if the resultant force is not zero and is in the opposite direction to the motion of the object?
The object is decelerating.
How do we calculate force?
Force = mass x acceleration.
If a resultant force is acting upon an object what does it mean?
The object is accelerating.
What is the difference between mass and weight?
Mass is the measure of how much matter is in an object.
Weight is a measurement of how hard gravity is pulling on the object.
How do we calculate weight?
Weight = mass x gravitational field strength
What is the gravitational field strength on earth?
10 n/kg
If an object falls with only gravity acting on it what is it said to be doing?
Free falling
What first happens when an object free falls?
The object accelerates.
What then happens?
The object accelerates to a terminal velocity.
What is a terminal velocity?
Where a free falling object travels at constant velocity as the weight of the object is balanced by air resistance.
Does an object has a resultant force when travelling at a terminal velocity?
No, there is no acceleration.
