Motion Flashcards
What is a scalar quantity?
A quantity which has magnitude only. Eg mass, volume, length
What is a vector quantity?
A quantity which has magnitude and direction. Eg, velocity, acceleration, force
How can you calculate velocity with distance and time?
Velocity = Displacement / Time
How do you calculate average velocity?
Displacement / Time
(Initial velocity + final velocity) / 2
How do you calculate velocity?
(V - U) / T
How do you calculate acceleration?
(V - U) / T
What does a straight horizontal line on a distance-time graph?
A stationary body
What does a straight diagonal line on a distance-time graph show?
A body travelling at uniform speed
What does an upwards curve show on a distance-time graph?
A body that is accelerating
What does a straight horizontal line on a velocity-time graph?
A body travelling at uniform velocity
What does the area under a velocity-time graph show?
The displacement of a body
What does a straight diagonal line show on a velocity-time graph?
A body travelling with uniform acceleration
What does the gradient of a velocity-time graph show?
The acceleration of a body
