dancer has to balance-one on the head and one on the back each hand.The oil lamp is
called tinghoy.Sometimes, candles in glasses are used instead of an oil lamp.
PANDANGGO SA ILAW
performed by
fishermen to celebrate a good catch. In this version, the lamps are placed in cloths or nets
and swung around as the dancers circle and sway.
PANDANGGO OASIWAS
performed by male dancers. Coconut shell halves are secured onto the dancers’ hands and on vests upon which are hung four or six more coconut shell halves. The dancers perform the dance by hitting one coconut shell with the other.It originated from Binan, Laguna
MAGLALATIK
performed on top of a narrow bench. Dancers need good balance
as they go through a series of movements that include some impressive acrobatics. This
dance traces its roots back to the areas of Pangapisan, Lingayen and Pangasinan.
SAYAW SA BANGKO
usually performed at festive social occasions
like weddings and birthdays. Dancers carefully balance three half-filled glasses of rice wine
on their heads and hands as they gracefully spin and roll on the ground. The dance originated in Bayambang in the Pangasinan province, and though it’s usually performed
alone, it can also become a competition between several dancers.
BINASUAN
an old Spanish dance. It is a combination of
Spanish and llocano dance set to Spanish music and castanets. A more solemn version of
the dance is sometimes used to accompany a funeral procession, but it was also performed
at the festival.
LA JOTA MONCADEÑA
flamenco-influenced dance that comes from Botolan,
Zambales. It combines Filipino and Spanish steps, and is a popular dance at weddings,
baptisms and village fiestas. It is also considered a courtship dance in some instances.
HABANERA BOTOLENA
from the Maranao tribes of Mindanao in the
Philippines. The dance shows many ways of wearing the malong - a tubular yet functional
piece of cloth. Some wear it as a shawl, a mantle or head piece.
KAPPA MALONG-MALONG
Tausug dance characterized by elaborate body postures and
gestures and the graceful arm and hand movement of the dancer, amplified by the use of
janggay or metal claws. The dance is performed to the music of the kulintangan, gandang,
agong and gabang.Commonly referred to as the fingernail dance, Pangalay is usually performed during weddings and other festive celebrations.
PANGALAY
an occupational dance. It is characterized by a variety of
activities that are related to the llocanos’s way of living. The dance also describes the
beating of cotton pods as the seeds are separated from the fibers with the use of two sticks
called batbat.
