    • can overwinter

  • females are blood feeders
  • transmit:
    • Dirofilaria immitis (heartworm)
    • Arboviruses - E//W//V Encephalitis
    • Malaria

How do you control mosquitoes?

A
  • removal of breeding sites - drainage
  • introduction of predatory fish marshy areas and rice fields (doesn’t help in areas where breeding takes place in small temporary bodies of water).
  • environmental sprays
    • but this contaminates the land
