Inflectional morpheme
suffixes that change the grammatical meaning of a word without creating a new word
Derivational morpheme
affixes that are added to the base word to create a new word or change the meaning of an existing
Initialism
words formed from the initials of other word
Acronym
words formed from the initials of other words, that can be said as a word
Abbreviation
words formed by removing the middle part of the word
Shortening
parts are omitted usually from the end of a lexeme
Blend
words formed by joining more then one lexeme where one or both have been shortened
Compounding
two or more free morphemes are combined in their entirety to make one word
Contractions
lexemes formed by joining words, indicated with an apostrophe or elision
Conversion
lexemes that are created through broadening to more than one word class
Hypocoristic use of suffixes
adding suffixes like “-ie” or “-o” to a word to create a new, shorter version
