Morphological patterns of tissue necrosis Flashcards
caceous necrosis
cheesy appearance
structure lost
associated with TB
coagulative necrosis
due to lack of oxygen
structure maintained, color change
assoc w/ ischemia
Liquefactive necrosis
cellular outline destroyed
accumulation of WBC cuase a thick white-yellow appearance
assoc with bacterial and some fungal infections
Fat necrosis
breakdown of fat into fatty acids
tissue maintains structure and looks like flecks of yellow gritty material
assoc w/ pancreatitis
gummatous necrosis
tissue is firm w/ gummy center
found in the liver
assoc w/ syphilis
fibrinoid necrosis
death of vessel tissue resulting from immune reactions
has bright pink, amorphous fibrin appearance
assoc with vasculitis and malignant hypertension
fat suponification
white chalky areas seen in abdomen
indicative of fat necrosis
wet gangrene
swelling, blistering, red, wet appearance of tissue w/ foul odor
assoc with bacterial infection of burn injuries and trauma
dry gangrene
death due to lack of oxygen, shriveled skin, brown-black
assoc w/ diabetes and autoimmune disorders
