With respect to lights/sirens, what are the exceptions to the HTA for police?
- Red light to the front: s62(15)
- Allowed to have a siren: s.75(6)
- Alternating high beams (front lights can turn on separately to flash left and right): s.169(1)
With respect to highways, what are the exceptions to the HTA for police?
- May drive on a closed highway: s134(4)
- May drive backwards on a highway divided by a median strip with a max speed in excess of 80km/h (i.e. you are allowed to drive faster than this)
With respect to speed, what are the exceptions to the HTA for police, and what is the requirement to this exception?
- May drive faster than the speed limit
Requirement: Must be in a police vehicle used in the LAWFUL performance of your duties

Gross weight: Combined weight of vehicle AND load
Registered Gross Weight: Maximum weight of vehicle and load that is registered

Are air brakes allowed in the HTA?
No.
What are the conditions for a G1 license?
Zero blood alcohol content
Only driver and accompanying driver in front seat
No driving on designated highways
No driving from midnight-0500h
Accompanying driver must have full G license, at least 4 years experience, Blood Alcohol <50mg/100ml
Police may request accompanying driver to identify themselves (identity can be verbal)
What are the conditions for a G2 license (less than 6 months)?
Zero blood alcohol content
Only as many passengers as seat belts in the car
If between midnight-0500h, no more than ONE passenger under 20 years old UNLESS immediate family members
NOTE: If passengers or family members fail to identify, you cannot arrest

Zero blood alcohol content
Only as many passengers as seat belts in the car
If between midnight-0500h, no more than THREE passengers under 20 years old UNLESS immediate family members
Conditions do not apply if you have an accompanying driver
Midnight-0500h passenger limit does not apply to a driver 20 years or older
What is the definition of a “young driver” in Ontario? Why is this important?
Young driver = Under 22 years old
Must not have a blood alcohol level above ZERO
What are the conditions for an M1 license?
Zero blood alcohol content
No passengers
Cannot operate after dark (1/2 hour before sunrise, 1/2 hour after sunset)
Cannot operate on highway with posted 80km/h
Must wear approved helmet

What does an “L” condition on an M license mean? What are the conditions? What colours are the plates?
“L”=limited speed
For small motorcycle/mopeds
Limited speed motorcycle plate is green with white letters
Moped plate is RED with white letters
What does an “M” condition on an M license mean? How do you get it?
Condition for three-wheeled motorcycles:
Motorcycle with side car
Motorcycle with 2 wheels in front, one in rear
Motorcycle with 2 weeks in rear, one in front
You can get one by taking the safety course with any other class of license. No road test. You go straight to M(M) license.
When does a motor vehicle collision need to be reported? What if the driver is physically unable to report?
1) Fatality (within 30 days)
2) Personal injury or damage over $2000 (total to all cars)
3) If driver cannot report, occupant shall make report (if there was one)
How does “Report Damage to Highway” work in terms of who reports?
If damage is done by accident or otherwise:
1) Operator/driver of vehicle must report
2) Leader/rider/driver of animal must report
Must report FORTHWITH
Can go after owner of vehicle/animal if driver is not identified
Can you charge a vehicle owner for Fail to Remain at Collision?
No, as owner is not liable for failing to remain if they were not there. BUT you can charge them on 200(1)(c) of the HTA which involves giving, upon request, the name/license number/insurance of the driver AND owner
