What does DRRP stand for?
Deterrence, Retribution, Reformation and Protection
Deterrence
To put offenders off of reoffending, or to put society off of committing a crime
Retribution
Getting revenge or restoring the balance
Reformation
Dealing with the causes of crime to help the offender become a better member of society
Protection
Putting offenders in jail to keep them away from society, they will be no longer at risk, protecting offenders from themselves
Fine
UK responses to crime, an amount of money to be paid to makeup for a crime committed.
Community Payback Order
UK response to crime. a sentence for lower crimes, paying back for what they have done with their time, community service.
Prison
UK responses to crime. a custodial sentence where the offender is removed from society.
ASBOS / Tagging
UK responses to crime. a warning or electronic tag which limits the lifestyle of the offender
Custodial Sentence
A punishment that happens in custody, away from society
Non custodial sentence
A punishment that happens outside of custody and inside of society.
Miscarriage of justice
When an innocent person is accused / punished for a crime they did not commit.
Humane
Treating offenders with compassion and dignity
