4 big symptoms of depressive disorders
anhedonia (loss of motivation and interests), psychomotor retardation (slow movement), psychomotor agitation, dysphoria
MDD criteria
2 weeks or more of at least 5 symptoms
MDD with seasonal patterns
usually starts in fall/ winter and recovers in spring
persistent depressive disorder
more dysfunction and long lasting than MDD (continuous for at least 2 years)
attribution helplessness theory (3 aspects for depression)
global, internal, stable for negative events
negative cognitive triad
negative views of the world, themselves, and the future
criteria for manic episodes
at least a week with 3 symptoms
euthymia
stable mood between episodes for bipolar
BD I vs BD II
BD II experience hypomania whereas BD I experience full mania
BD: high heritability? neurotransmitter involved? average onset?
