Principle of moments :
When in equilibrium, the total sum of the anti-clockwise moment is equal to the sum of the clockwise moment
Purpose of a counterweight of a crane.
To prevent the crane from toppling over, concrete blocks are suspended at the other end of the jib (the horizontal arm used to lift heavy building materials). They act as a counter-weight to create a moment that opposes the moment of the load

- Hang up the object
- Suspend a mass from the same place
- Mark the position of the thread
- The center of the mass is somewhere along the line of the thread
- Repeat steps 1-3 with the object suspended from a different place.
