Moleclar Biology Flashcards
1
Q
Steps in protein biosynthesis
A
- DNA is copied to mRNA in the nucleus
- mRNA goes from the nucleus to the cytoplasm
- mRNA meets a ribosome
- tRNA carries amino acids to the ribosome
- Amino acids are linked together in a chain to make a protein.
2
Q
Steps in mitosis
A
- Prophase
- Metaphase
- Anaphase
- Telophase
(5. Cytokinesis)
3
Q
Prophase
A
Chromatin (the spread-out form of DNA) condenses into chromosomes (the tightly-packed molecules of DNA that look like Xs).
4
Q
Metaphase
A
Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell and spindle fibres attach to the centromeres of the chromosomes.
5
Q
Anaphase
A
The sister chromatids in each chromosome are ripped apart.
6
Q
Telophase
A
The chromosomes at each pole de-condense and nuclear envelopes form around each set.
7
Q
Cytokinesis
A
Splitting of the cell into two new daughter cells. The membrane comes down the middle and breaks the two new cells apart.
