Mole concept in gases Flashcards
Ideal gas equation ( 3rd way to find no. of moles)
PV = nRT
P = pressure
V = volume
n = no. of moles
R = Universal gas constant
T = Temperature
Kelvin
C + 273.15
1 atm
1.01325 x 10^5 Pa
1 bar
10^5 Pa
STP
Standard Temperature Pressure
NTP
Normal Temperature pressure
At STP
T = 273 K ; P = 1 bar ; V = 22.7 L
At NTP
T = 273 K ; P = 1 atm ; V => 1(V) = 1 ( 0.0821) ( 273) = 22.4 L ( PV = nRT where no. of moles (n) = 1)
Formula to calculate no. of moles at STP (4th way)
V ( in litres) / 22.7 L
Formula to calculate no. of moles at NTP(5th way)
V ( in litres ) / 22.4 L
Conditions to be satisfied to apply formula 4th & 5th
- finding no. of moles of gas
- STP/NTP
For calculation purpose
NTP = STP (Approx ) as 1 atm = 1 bar ( approx) => volume occupied taken as 22.4 L for both
R ( if in J )
8.314 J/K/mol
R ( if in atm)
0.0821 L atm / K / mol
R( if in bar )
0.08314 L bar/K/mol
