Mole Concept Flashcards
relative atomic mass
weighted average of the isotopic mass of one atom of an element relative to 1/12 mass of one atom carbon-12
isotopic mass
mass of one atom of the isotope relative to 1/12 the mass of one atom of carbon-12
relative Molecular mass
weighted average of the masses of one molecule relative to 1/12 the mass of one atom of carbon-12
formula mass:
weighted average of the masses of one formula unit relative to 1/12 the mass of one atom of carbon-12
mole (in terms of AVOGADROS CONSTANT) :
one mole of a substance is amount of that substance which contains same number of particles as there are atoms in 12.0g of C-12 isotopes and has a value of 6.02x10^23
empirical formula:
simplest formula that shows simplest whole number ratio of atoms of each element present in the compound
molecular formula
shows actual number of atoms of each element in one molecule of compound. It is simple multiple of empirical formula and can only be obtained if molar mass is known.
