MOINA of Muscles Connecting the Scapula to the Humerus Flashcards
supraspinatus
origin: supraspinous fossa
insertion: greater tuberosity of the humerus; capsule of shoulder joint
nerve: suprascapular nerve
abducts arm and stabilizes shoulder joint
infraspinatus
origin: infraspinous fossa
insertion: greater tuberosity of humerus; capsule of shoulder joint
nerve: subscapular nerve
laterally rotates and stabilizes shoulder joint
teres minor
origin: upper two thirds of lateral border of scapula
insertion: greater tuberosity of humerus; capsule of shoulder joint
nerve: axillary nerve
laterally rotates arm and stabilizes shoulder joint
subscapularis
origin: subscapular fossa
insertion: lesser tuberosity of humerus
nerve: upper and lower subscapular nerves
medially rotates arm and stabilizes shoulder joint
deltoid
origin: lateral third of clavicle, acromion, and spine of scapula
insertion: middle of lateral surface of shaft of humerus
nerve: axillary nerve
middle fibers abduct the arm, anterior fibers flex and medially rotate the arm, posterior fibers extend and laterally rotate the arm
teres major
origin: lower third of lateral border of scapula
insertion: medial lip of bicipital groove of humerus
nerve: lower subscapular nerve
medially rotates and adducts the arm; stabilizes the shoulder joint
