- Foreground (experienced with the patient problem)
- Background (New to the patient problems)
What does PICO stand for?
Patient Problem
Intervention (prognostic factor or exposure)
Comparison (not always needed)
Outcome (focus on patient important outcomes)
What are the five main foreground clinical questions?
therapy, harm/etiology, prognosis, diagnosis, and differential diagnosis
What is differential diagnosis?
in patients with a particular clinical presentation, establishing the frequency of the underlying disorder
A provider should find studies at the top of the hierarchy of evidence

What does the primary level of processing include?
studies from RCT and below
What are the there categories of EBM resources?
- Summaries/ Background
- pre-appraised
- Non-pre-appraised
What is under/categorizes Summaries/Background?
Systems and Summaries
What is under/categorizes Pre-appraised?
Any synopses such as Synopses of syntheses, syntheses, and synopses of studies
What is under/categorized Non-pre-appraised?
Primary studies
- primary studies can be found under filtered and unfiltered databases
What is the best way to choose evidence?
- Bases of best current evidence (high vs low quality, strength of recommendations, citations)
- coverage and specificity (discipline and practice, question type)
- Availability and access (readily available, affordable)
What are the limitations of browsing mode of used medical literature (online articles)?
- little relevance or newsworthiness
- fail to meet the critical appraisal criteria
