Rattle” sound heard primarily on expiration in upper airway from secretions
Rhonchi
rubbing together of the pleural lining; sounds like leather rubbing
Pleural Friction Rub
sign of upper airway
obstruction; high-pitched
Stridor
the level the diaphragm separates the lungs from the abdominal viscera
Excursion
alveolar or lung collapse as seen with pneumonia, effusion, tumor
Atelectasis
free air in the pleural space; decreases the negative pressure of the
lungs
Pneumothorax
popping, cracking, grating sound heard when moving cervical spine or joints;
Crepitus
palpate vibrations of the chest while the client repeats “99”
