Modeule G Flashcards
Pericardium
sac that surrounds and protects the heart
Systole
contraction ;top # of the blood pressure
Diastole
Relaxation; bottom # of the blood pressure
S1 heart sound
caused by closure of the AV (mitral & tricuspid) valves; signals the
beginning of systole; heard best at the apex of the heart: bottom of the heart
S2 heart sound
caused by closure of the semilunar valves (aortic & pulmonic); signals
the beginning of diastole; heard best at the base of the heart: top of the heart
Cardiac regions—Landmarks
Aortic-2nd Right ICS
o Pulmonic-2nd Left ICS
o Erb’s Point- 3rd Left ICS
o Tricuspid- 4th Left ICS at sternal border
o Mitral
Apical Impulse
palpated in the normal adult client at the fourth or fifth left intercostal
