Module #9 - Concepts Flashcards
1
Q
VSEPR Theory
A
Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion
Molecules will attain whatever shape that keeps the valence electrons of the central atom as far apart from one another as possible.
With in the VSEPR Theory, non-bonding electron pairs repel more strongly than bonds.
2
Q
Polar covalent compounds …
A
can dissolve other polar covalent compounds and ionic compounds. This is because both types of compounds contain electrical charges.
3
Q
Purely covalent compounds…
A
can only dissolve other purely covalent compounds because no electrical charges are present.
