Q

Valence Electrons

A
  • An atom’s chemistry is determined by the number of valence electrons.
  • Atom’s in the same column of the periodic chart have the same number of valence electrons.
  • For atoms in groups 1A-8A, the number of the column in which the atom is located on the periodic chart equals the number of valance electrons the atom has.

Q

Ozone (O3) blocks the deadly ultraviolet rays from the sun by…

A

The ultraviolet light from the sun will break the bond of the O3. The reaction will produce O2 and an O (which will bond with another O to complete the homonuclear diatomic element). This reaction will use up the energy from the light and it disappears.

Q

What is the fundamental difference between metals and non-metals?

A
