Module 8 Flashcards
What are the components of exhaust
Exhaust Cone assembly, Exhaust Duct, and Exhaust Nozzle
What does the exhaust core assembly consist of?
An outer duct, which is part of/attached to the exhaust core and turbine support struts
What does the exhaust duct do?
Directs the gases to the exhaust nozzle
What do exhaust nozzles do?
Provides exhaust gases with a final boost in velocity to produce maximum thrust
Where is vectored thrust found?
STOL (Short Takeoff or Landing) Military aircraft
What are the different types of thrust reversers?
Mixed Exhaust (Turbojet and low bypass engines) Cold Stream (Medium and High Bypass engines)
What are the different types of mixed exhaust thrust reversers?
Bucket type, Clamshell Doors
What are the different types of cold stream thrust reversers?
Pedal Doors, Cascade Type
Thrust Alternator is hydraulically actuated “paddle” deploys when 3 conditions are met:
1) Throttle is at Idle
2) The aircraft is on the ground
3) The engine is running
How do afterburners work?
It is a ramjet attached to the exhaust of a turbojet.
What are the 4 fundamental components of the afterburners?
1) Afterburner Duct
2) Fuel Manifold (with nozzles)
3) Flame holder
4) Two position or variable C-D exhaust nozzles
__________ system is a system to boost thrust, in which water and methanol are sprayed as a vapour into the compressor inlet and/or the diffuser to reduce airflow temp and increase density and thrust
Water Injection
What can help reduce noise in engines?
Acoustic materials, exhaust mixer/collector designs and the installation of hush kits
