Module 7 Flashcards
Spearman Intelligence Theory
One factor “G” can measure all intelligence. How you score on one test you will score the same on the rest.
Gardner Intelligence Theory
7-9 Intelligences: Linguistic, Logical (math), Spatial, Musical, Kinesthetic, Interpersonal (others), Intrapersonal (self insight), Naturalistic
Sternberg Intelligence Theory
Triarchic (3) C.A.P.- Creative (Pinterest), Analytical (multiple angles), Practical (street smarts)
Skinner’s Operant Conditioning Theory of Behaviorism
Positive Reinforcement (adding), Negative Reinforcement (taking away), [positive/negative are not good or bad] Generalization (associating more with other similar things), Discrimination (leaning not to generalize, Extinction (stopping), Shaping (positive reinforcement every time close to ideal behavior)
What are 2 instructional strategies behaviorist educators use?
Lectures and Readings, Direct Instruction (old school) & Mastery Teaching
Steps to memory
Sensory Memory: few seconds, visual is 1/2 second, auditory 3-4 seconds
Short-term or Working: from sensory memory, 15-30 seconds, decide to keep it or lose it
Rehearsal: Repeat or practice to keep information
Long Term Memory: Capacity unlimited, related concepts are linked
Explicit Memory: Consciously try to remember
Implicit Memory: Not part of consciousness, cannot consciously recall
Metacognition
Thinking about your own thinking
3 processes: Planning, Tracking, Assessing
What are instructional strategies cognitivist educators use?
Outline information, Advance organizers and concept maps
What is student-centered learning?
Students guide their own learning, asking questions (Piaget)
What is cooperative learning?
Student mixed groups, each has a job (scribe, speaker, inquirer, manager), project end, teacher led
What is collaborative learning?
Students grouped by ability, focus is on process not end result, student-led instruction
Examples of Blended Learning Models
Station rotation- separate rotations includes individual work on separate computers, Lab rotation- When separate computers aren’t available for each student, Flex- Mostly online, teachers as needed.
What are types of Constructivist Teaching?
Project based- Interact w/ concept, make project, Inquiry based- Focus is on discussion.
What is Constructivism?
Building on prior knowledge, student-led, Problem solving, critical thinking, focus on mastery and deep understanding.
What is reciprocal teaching?
Grouping student, predicting, clarifying, questioning, summarizing
Examples of instructional strategies used by constructivist educators?
Field trips, group discussions, not just explained
