Module 6 Unit 3 Flashcards
What is a circle sector
A circle sector is a pie shaped portion of a circle that is enclosed by two radii and an arc
What is a circle segment
A circle segment is a region bound by a chord and an arc that is subtended by the chord
What is the difference between a circle sector and a circle segment
A circle segment being bound by radii is always connected to the centre of the circle while a segment is not connected to the centre of the circle being bound by a chord
What is the formula for calculating arc length
Arc length (l) = radii (r) times the angle of the segment (theta)
What is the relationship between radius, arch length and, the angle of the sector.
Because the ratio between the length and the angle will always be the same as the circumference of a circle and 2π
The length will always equal the radius times the angle
How is the area of a sector calculated
Area of a sector = 0.5 times the angle of the sector times the radius squared
