Module 6- methods of brain research Flashcards
To get a more detailed image of the brain using radio waves and magnetic field to produce an image of the brain
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Produces images of the brain using x-rays.
Computed tomography (CT scan)
Dealing with consciousness or sleep. measures the electrical activity of the brain by requiring little electrodes on the scalp
Electroencephalogram (EEG)
Involve injecting radioactive sugar or glucose and seeing how it’s used by the brain.
(When your brain is functioning, it gets energy from sugar – if radioactive than parts of the brain will use more radioactive sugar– different colors will show on the scan of the brain showing which parts of your brain are more active.)
Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
See how brain responds during surgery. (Evolutionary for doctors to see how the brain reacts under surgery) measures changes of the oxygen in your blood.
functionary MRI (fMRI)
