What is articulation?
Articulation is the formation of clear and distinct sounds in speech.
What are the 5 main speech organs?
Lips
Tongue

What is meant by the manner and place of articulation?
The manner of articulation refers to how the mouth moves in order to produce a sound.
The place of articulation refers to the location at which two speech organs come together in order to make the sound.
What terminology could you use to describe articulation? Name 7.
Plosive consonants
Fricative
Lateral approximant
Stop / Glottal stop
Affricate
Voiceless / Voiced
Nasal
What are plosive consonants?
Airflow is interrupted by complete closure made by the mouth.
Examples: p / b / t / d / k /g
What is nasal articulation and share some examples.
Release of air through the nasal cavity.
Examples: m / n / ng
What is fricative articulation? Share some examples.
Pushing air through a small space between your teeth, tongue, or lips. Or between your teeth and palate.
Examples: f / z
What is lateral approximant?
Share some examples.
Air escapes through the sides of the tongue rather than over the middle of it.
The only lateral approximant in English is ālā.
What is a stop and glottal stop?
Share some examples.
Stop: Consonant where the tract is blocked and then released.
Examples: k / g / p / b
Glottal stop: aka glottal plosive, between syllables in an exclamation.
Example: uh-oh
What is an affricate?

A consonant sound that begins as a stop and then releases as a fricative.
