What is the appearance of more chronic DVT?

Higher echogenicity, retracted/stranding

What is the issue with post thrombotic scarring? (Recanalization)
A
Fibrous strands are not at risk of embolizing but creates a site for new DVT

Describe chronic venous insufficiency?
A
-Permanent damage to the valve leaflets which causes reflux, causing increasing symptoms over time (swelling, heaviness, aches, telangiectasia(spider veins))
-When severe: venous claudication (burning/cramping), stasis dermatitis (dry, flaky skin), ulcers

Signs and symptoms of CVI (post thrombotic syndrome)
A
-swelling/pitting edema
-brawny discolouration/hyperpigmentation in the gaiter zone
-redness/rubor
-varicose veins
