Module 6 Chapter 2 - Electric Fields Flashcards
1
Q
Description of a large metal sphere’s field:
A
There is no field inside a metal sphere. The field outside the sphere is the same as it would be if all the charge were concentrated in the center.
2
Q
How can an electric field’s strength be calculated based on the movement of a charge within it?
A
E = F / Q
3
Q
What is the equation for the electric field strength at a point charge?
A
E = Q / 4π ε₀ r². Note that applying E = F / Q can be used to find the force between two point charges.
4
Q
Check ability to derive E = V / d
A
Start with E = F / Q E = (W / d) / Q E = (W / d) / (W / V) E = (1 / d) / (1 / V) E = V / d
5
Q
How does the capacitance of a capacitor relate to permittivity of the insulating material? (equation)
A
C = εA / d
