Charts
-hightlight what u want to be a chart, then go insert tab and click what u want
-better to move the chart to another page by right clicking and click move to new sheet
-u can edit chart using design tab, or by clicking the different lines or bars and doing format that data series and changing things that way
Column Charts
-good for looking at different categories of data and then the multiple criteria for each category
-can also display changes over time but line is better for this
Line charts
displays changes over time
Scatter plot
When you want to see how two things correlate like
This [XY scatter chart] is a good way of representing data if you are working with scientific data or other types of [data with] interesting correlations.
-can change the axis, have different ranges
-can add a trendline
Pie Chart
Pie charts are especially useful for analyzing [the] composition of something or looking at different parts that sum up to be a whole and you want to visualize the size of the relative components of the whole piece [entity].
Filters and sorting
-go to data tab, click filter
, it will automaticlaly detect the titles
to sort by it, just click the arrow next to it and click sort
To filter only specific items…
click on arrow, then u can deselect all and click the certain things u want, think like target park and wanting to only show halifax locations, under location we can deselect all and then select all the halifax locations and then the table changes and only shows the info for those on the monthly fee spreadsheet
u can also organize by number by doing the same thing to the column that has numbers
Pivot Tables
- one of the most advanced features
definition: easily arranges and summarzies complex data in a pivot table
go to insert tab and click pivot table
Use the pivot table fields to arrange what u want to show up on the pivot table
Reason its called pivot table: is because it can be rearranged so things can be rows and then in another form it can be columns
-can add filters too, so this can allow us to filter out certain things
Pivot chart
Definition: allows us to graphically summarize data and explore complicated data
when u make a pivot chart, it automatically makes a pivot table with it in the background, and it automatically makes the chart as u do changes
-same things as pivot table in the field region, have a filter section, a column, a row, and a value section
What If Analysis Tool
go to data tab, then what if analysis
Goal Seek:has 3 things to it
a) set cell:
b)To value:
c)By changing cell
ie, if trying to find final grade
look at picture on ipad
can use it to:
1) solve complicated equations
2)find grade needed to pass course
