Module 5 Flashcards
what are the 3 main muscle types?
Cardiac: only located in the heart and functions involuntarily
Smooth: located in the blood vessels and the visceral organs and functions involuntarily
Skeletal: attached to the skeleton (bones) by tendons and functions voluntarily
Fibrous Joints
Immovable or slightly moveable
Example: The sutures in the skull, where the bones are tightly joined, or the joint between the tibia and fibula in the lower leg (syndesmosis), which allows for slight movement.
Cartilaginous Joints
Partially moveable
Example: The intervertebral discs in the spine, where the vertebrae are connected by cartilage, or the pubic symphysis (joint between the two pubic bones).
Synovial Joints
Freely moveable
Example: The knee, elbow, shoulder, and hip joints. These are the most common and mobile types of joints.
