Module 4 Two-Way ANOVA Flashcards
What is another name for a Two-way ANOVA?
Factorial ANOVA (multiple factors)
What is the main reason for running a Two-way ANOVA?
To look at the interaction between the two independent variables
What does interaction mean?
The effect that one independent variable has on the dependent variable is not the same for all levels of the other independent variable.
How can you EASILY find an interaction?
Graph: The lines are going in different directions
Table of means: No pattern in numbers
What does it mean if there is a pattern in data?
There is no interaction
What does it mean if there is not a pattern in data?
There is an interaction
What do the first two null hypotheses of a Two-way ANOVA test?
The main effects (the independent variables)
What does the last null hypothesis of a Two-way ANOVA test?
The interaction effect
Which is the most important null in a Two-way ANOVA?
The interaction null effect
True or False?
If the interaction is significant you MUST look at the main effects.
False. If the interaction is significant you DO NOT need to look at the main effects.
What MUST you do if the interaction is significant?
Explain the interaction
What must you do if the interaction is not significant?
Look at the main effects (independent variables)
What must you do if there is a significant difference between the main effects?
Run a post hoc test and determine if it is meaningful (effect size)
