Module 4 Lec 2 Flashcards
Where do immune system cells originate?
The bone marrow
What is the progenitor of the Myeloid and lymphoid cells?
Hematopoietic cells
what is the precursor of granulocytes, macrophages dendritic cells and mast cells?
Myeloid progenitor cells
What is the precursor of lymphocytes B and T cells?
Lymphoid progenitor cells
what are the types of macrophages in organ tissues?
Kuphee in liver, Microglia in the brain and alveolae macrophages in the lungs
what 3 cells can engulf particles?
macrophage. dendritic cell, neutrophil
when do lymphocytes activate to mount an immune response?
when they encounter antigen
what is the function of cytokine?
cells - cell communication for immune response
what is innate immunity?
the first line of defense. consists of barriers
what is adaptive immunity?
delayed immunological response
activation of B cells, antibodies and T cells
what are interferons and when are they produced?
proteins released by cell when infected by virus
stimulate antiviral proteins
what is the purpose of fevers?
increase mobility of phagocytosis
increase production of cytokines
what is the purpose of inflamation?
vasodilation and bring in macrophages for particle removal
what are 3 characteristics of adaptive immune system?
highly specific
slower to respond
built in memory for second exposure cases
what is the humoral and cell-mediated immunity>
humoral - antibody production
cell-mediated - memory T cell production
