Module 4: Basic Concepts on Laboratories Biosafety and Biosecurity Flashcards
the CDC published the
Classification of Etiological Agents on the Basis
that introduced the concept of establishing ascending levels of containment associated with risks
1974
are containment principles, technologies, and practices implemented to prevent unintentional exposure to pathogens and toxins, or their unintentional release.
Laboratory Biosafety
are protection, control and accountability for valuable biological materials within laboratories, in order to prevent their unauthorized access, loss, theft, misuse, diversion or intentional release
Biosecurity
Unlikely to cause harm or disease on healthy individuals
Risk Group 1 (low individual and community risk)
Can cause disease but moderate or less serious hazard Preventive measures and medications available
Risk Group 2 (moderate individual, low community risk)
Can cause serious disease but not ordinarily spread Preventive measures and medications available
Risk Group 3 (high individual, low community risk)
NO MEDICATIONS, causes serious disease and easy mode of transmissio
Risk Group 4 (high individual and community risk)
