Understand the cause of condition, risk factors associated , to help a person return to a healthier lifestyle.
Symptoms
Experienced by the individual
headache, chest pain, palpitations, SOB
Signs
Observed by someone other than the individual (throwing up, chills and shakes, passing out)
Pathology and disease process
Have some degree of knowledge of the pathology and the disease process as it helps us to look out for specific precautions and limitations.
Psychological aspect of physical dysfunction
Can be a loss of a limb, loss of basic function, loss of identity or a role of a person
(Individual needs to learn to survive, then recover essential function, and finally resume the meaningful life role.)
Factor that impact persons psychology
- Time of life and developmental stage when disability occurred
- Extent and location of disability
- Nature of defect/disability
- Social Definition of disability
- Attitude of the family towards disability and person
- Degree of impact of disability on personal function level
- Disruption of the valued goals
- Locus of Control
