Module 4 Flashcards
Sublimation
The process by which a solid turns into a gas without passing through a liquid phase
Boiling Point
The temperature at which a liquid’s vapor pressure equals the current atmospheric pressure
normal boiling point
The temperature at which a liquid’s vapor pressure equals nurmal atmospheric pressure (1 atm)
Triple point
The temperature and pressure at which all three phases of matter exist together in a given substance.
In a face-centered cubic crystal,
r = (square root of 2) • (edge length)/ 4
In a body-centered cubic crystal,
r = (square root of 3) • (edge length) / 4
Lattice energy
The energy required to separate the ions in an ionic solid.
In a simple cubic crystal,
the radius of the atom is 1/2 the edge of the unit cell.
