Module 3: Recognizing the Role of the youth in Nation Building Flashcards
This module discusses the concept of discovering oneself in terms of potentials, capabilities, and approaches in the assumption of role as a key player towards social transformation. As an NSTP-CWTS student, you owe it to your community and the country to contribute to uplifting the lives of your less privileged brothers and sisters. This can only be realized if you are truly aware of what you can share to our society.
The American psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner in his take in child development emphasized that there is a complex system that contributes to the development of a person.
Urie Bronfenbrenner
Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory presents different systems that contribute to this multi-level relationships which include:
the microsystem, the mesosystem, the exosystem, the macrosystem, and the chronosystem.
An ecological system of environmental changes that occur over the life course.
Chronosystem
An ecological system of attitudes and idealogies of the culture.
Macrosystem
An ecological system of extended family and neighbours.
Exosystem
This involves its growth and development. The changes over the years and how body faculties are used to adapt to their environment. It also includes observable features which others are quick to notice and makes us recognizable in the crowd
Physical Dimension
This involves learning, memory and continually growing knowledge on the different fields the person is interested to. To educate and update oneself on the things that are happening in the world. How the person perceives the world and himself.
Mental Dimension
Refers to feelings, self-regulation, perception on oneself and others. Contentment in life and managing day to day stress and pressure that is encountered by the person. It is also considered to be an intimacy to oneself as a person regards his own feelings.
Emotional Dimension
The connection of the person to the world
around him. Value system, belief and
culture to where the person is brought up
to. Speaks of the need to be accepted in
the society, to belong to a family or group
and the need to have someone to depend
on or be depended upon.
Socio-Cultural Dimension
This does not only mean to belong to a certain religion but to transcend from the materialistic world to a life of greater purpose. Considered also to be meta- physical and gives a person a purpose to do good and serve others.
Spiritual Dimension
They say that life is a constant search of finding ourselves. Part of this search is to become more adept to who we are and what we are going through. This is perceived to be part of what we call _______.
is a multiple dimension of how one experience the self
an understanding of their strengths, weaknesses, feelings, thoughts, and values, as well as how they affect the people around them…
Self-Awareness
Represents how clearly we see our own values, passions, aspirations, fit with our environment, reactions (including thoughts, feelings, behaviors, strengths, and weaknesses), and impact on others.”
It is an inward way of seeing things that we have and how these things affect others that surrounds us.
Internal self-awareness
“means understanding how other people view us, in terms of those same factors listed above.”
This is knowing how other people see what we are and what we have. How they perceive and understand our actions.
External self-awareness
Theyre clear on who they are but don’t challenge their own views or search for blind spots by getting feedback from others. This can harm their relationships and limit their success.
(High internal self-awareness and low external self-awareness)
Introspectors
They know who they are, what they want to accomplish, and seek out and value other’s opinion. This is where leaders begin to fully realize the true benefits of self-awareness.
(High internal self-awareness and high external self-awareness)
Aware
They don’t know who they are, what they stand for, or how their teams see them. As a result, they might feel stuck or frustrated with their performance and relationsihps.
(Low internal self-awareness and low external self-awareness)
Seekers
They can be so focused on appearing a certain way to others that they could be overlooking what matters to them. Over time, they tend to make choices that aren’t in service of their own success and fulfillment.
low internal self-awareness and high external self-awareness
Pleasers
Dr. Eurich also emphasized that when people do introspection, it is better to ask the
question “What?” rather than “Why?” as this gives us a clearer view of what leads us to a
certain decision or what have we become to be or perceived by other people. It is also
important to have people who can be our “_____”.
Loving critic
Stephen Covey mentioned this as
he said that each person needs someone to “______”. To simply put, someone
who can give us real and grounded observation of how we are as a person.
clean their glasses
Eurich recommended three pillars which
people can use also in the aim of improving themselves especially for leaders who would like
