Module 3 Muscles Flashcards
What is the origin and insertion of the brachioradialus
O: proximal 2/3 of the lateral supracondylar ridge of the humerus
I: styloid process of the radius
What is the innervation of the brachioradialis
Radial Nerve
What are the actions of the brachioradialis
Flexes the elbow at the humeroulnar joint
Assist to pronate and supinate the forearm when these movements are resisted
What is the origin and insertion of the Triceps Brachii
O: infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula(long head)
Proximal posterior 1/2 of surface of the humerus(lateral)
Distal posterior 1/2 of surface of humerus (medial)
I: Olecranon process of the ulna
What is the innervation of the Triceps Brachii
Radial nerve
What are the actions of the Triceps Brachii
Extends the elbow at the humeroulnar joint
The long head also adducts and extends the shoulder at the glenohumeral joint
Origin and insertion of the the biceps brachii
O: supraglenoid tubercle (long head)
Coracoid process of the scapula(short head)
I:tuberosity of the radius and aponeurosis of the biceps brachii
Actions of the biceps brachii
Flexes the elbow at the humeroulnar jt
Supinates the forearm at the radioulnar joint
Flexes the shoulder at the glenohumeral joint
Innervation of the biceps brachii
Musculocutaneous nerve
What is the Origin and insertion of the subscapularis
O: subscapular fossa of the scapula
I: lesser tubercle of the humerus
What are the actions of the subscapularis
Medially rotates the shoulder at the GH joint
Stabilizes the head of the humerus in the glenoid cavity
What’s the innervation of the subscapularis
Upper and lower subscapular nerves
What’s the origin and insertion of the Teres Minor
O: upper 2/3 of the lateral border of the scapula
I: greater tubercle of the humerus
What are the actions of the Teres minor
Laterally rotates the shoulder at the glenohumeral joint
Adducts the shoulder at the gh joint
Stabilizes the head of the humerus in the glenoid cavity
Innervation of the Teres Minor
Axillary nerve
Origin and insertion of the Infraspinatus
O: infraspinous fossa of the scapula
I: greater tubercle of the humerus
What are the actions of the infraspinatus
Laterally rotates the shoulder at the glenohumeral jt
Adducts the shoulder at the gh jt
Stabilizes the head of the humerus in the glenoid cavity
Innervation of the infraspinatus
Suprascapular nerve
What are the origin and insertion of the Supraspinatus?
O: supraspinous fossa of the scapula
I: greater tubercle of the humerus
Actions of the the Supraspinatus
Abducts the shoulder the GH jt
Stabilizes the head of the humerus in the glenoid cavity
Innervation of the Supraspinatus
Suprascapular nerve
Teres Major origin and insertion
O: inferior angle and the lower 1/3 of the lateral border of the scapula
I: crest of the lesser tubercle of the humerus
Teres Major actions
Medially rotates the shoulder at GH jt
Adducts the shoulder at GH jt
Extends the shoulder at the GH jt
Teres Major innervation
Lower subscapular nerve
Latissimis Dorsi origin and insertion
O: inferior angle of the scapula, spinous processes of the last 6 thoracic verterbrae, last 3/4 ribs, thoracolumbar fascia and posterior iliac crest
I: intertubercular groove of the humerus
Latissimus Dorsi actions
Medially rotates the shoulder at the GH jt
Adducts the shoulder at the GH jt
Extends the shoulder at the GH jt
Innervation of the latissimus Dorsi
Thoracodorsal nerve
Deltoid origin and insertion
O: lateral 1/3 of the clavicle, acromion process, and the spine of the scapula
I: deltoid tuberosity
Deltoid actions
All fibers: abducts the shoulder at the GH joint
Anterior fibers: flexes the shoulder at the GH joint
Medially rotates the shoulder at the GH jt
Horizontally adducts the shoulder at the GH jt
Posterior Fibers:
Extends the shoulder at the GH jt
Laterally rotates the shoulder at the GH Jt
Horizontally abducts the shoulder at the GH jt
Deltoid nerve innervation
Axillary nerve
