Module 3 Flashcards
What is a server?
A server is a computer that delivers (serves) items like web pages, documents, or videos to other computers over a network, typically having no keyboard or screen.
What is a PC?
A PC (personal computer, aka desktop PC) is typically used by a few people in a home or office, includes a keyboard and screen, and runs various applications like office productivity, web access, games, etc.
What is a tablet?
A tablet is a specialized portable computer typically about the size of a book with the size being mostly the screen, which is used for both output and input.
What is a smartphone?
A smartphone is a pocket-sized mobile phone that also has computer functionality, able to run various applications like web browsing. Smartphones tend to be low-cost, small, consume little power, but slower-running than other computer types.
What is Hardware
Hardware is the term for the physical parts of a computer.
What is CPU?
CPU is short for central processing unit. The CPU has two main components : The arithmetic logic unit or ALU performs arithmetic operations on binary integers.
The control unit tells computer components, such as memory, the ALU, and input and output devices, how to respond to computer instructions.
What is memory
Hardware that stores data. Memory is also called RAM, short for Random Access Memory.
What is the CPU clock?
The speed at which a CPU runs instructions is governed by a ticking clock signal. A clock’s ticks per second is called the clock frequency.
What is Cache?
A cache is a temporary storage location for data that can be quickly accessed again
What is a USB Flash Drive?
A USB flash drive is a non-volatile storage device that a user can connect to a computer via a USB port.
What is CRT
A CRT (cathode ray tube) monitor houses an electron gun at the rear of the monitor, which emits a high-speed beam of electrons toward a vacuum tube located at the front of the monitor.
What is LCD?
LCD (liquid crystal display) monitor consists of liquid crystals sandwiched between polarizing filters.
What is a plasma monitor?
A plasma monitor consists of hundreds of thousands of tiny gas-filled cells.
What is inkjet printer?
An inkjet printer sprays small drops of ink to create text and images.
What is a laser printer?
A laser printer contains a rotating ink drum that is electrostatically charged by a laser.
What is a dot matrix printer?
A dot matrix printer’s printhead moves back and forth and strikes an inked cloth against paper to produce text and graphics.
What is a thermal printer?
A thermal printer selectively heats thermal paper and the heated areas turn black.
What is a data projector?
A data projector is a portable projector that displays an enlarged image from a laptop onto a screen.
What is an LCD projector?
An LCD (liquid crystal display) projector shines light through a prism to separate red, green, and blue light.
What is a DLP projector?
A DLP (digital light processing) projector shines light through a spinning color wheel that passes red, green, and blue light to a chip with thousands of small mirrors.
What is Moore’s Law?
Chips have doubled in circuit capacity about every 1.5 or 2 years,
What is a server farm?
A server farm is a collection of thousands of servers, typically located in large buildings specially equipped to provide electrical power, cooling, physical security, and accessibility for repairs.
