Module 3 Flashcards
what is probability
likelihood of an event, A, to occur at random
Range from 0-1.00
probability in inferential statisctics
the likelihood that you’d obtain your given data if the null hypothesis were true
equation for probability
basic probability example
probability of independent events
equation for probability of independent events
example of probability of independent events
probability of dependent events
percentile rank
ordinal measure to tell us where an observation ranks among other observations
percentage of scores that are at or below a specific value
Only tells us about the rank order of where an observation falls.
Thus, it is an ORDINAL measure. This doesn’t tell us anything about magnitude.

properties of a normal distribution
the mean, median, and mode are all the same number in a normal distribution
> 2 standard deviations is a accepted sign of rarity
standard deviation
The average deviation of an observation in a variable from its mean. Get this by taking the square root of the variance.
(∑(𝑿 − 𝑿̅)^𝟐)/((𝑵−𝟏)) Standard deviation is same equation, but take the square root of the answer
variance
The squared deviation of an observation in a variable from its mean
