what is an infectious agent?
a tiny germ or villain that’s trying to make someone sick.
what is a reservoir?
where germs can hang out for a while, but they might not stay there forever.
what is the portal of exit?
exit door for germs to escape and spread to other places or people
Where can germs escape?
blood, saliva, mucus, urine, feces, mouth, nose, cuts or wounds on the skin.
What are hosts?
Hosts are living organisms, like humans or animals, that can be infected by germs.
What is the portal of entry?
the way germs enter the body to cause infections or illnesses
What is a susceptible host?
someone who’s an easy target for getting sick
What is Nosocomial infections?
infections that people get while they’re in the hospital or another healthcare setting.
What are iatrogenic infections?
are specifically caused by medical treatments or procedures.
What are antibiotic resistant organisms (ARO’s)?
Organisms that are resistant to antibioticis
What are Medical Aspesis?
Purpose to reduce and prevent the spread of microorganisms or germs
What is Medical Aspesis known for?
Clean technique
What is Surgical Aspesis known for?
sterile technique
What is the purpose of Surgical Aspesis?
Purpose to eliminate all microorganisms from an object/ area
