A

gift from God, part of creation, Adam and Eve - “one flesh”, Jesus valued it.
Provides emotional and physical stability, shows commitment, start a family, grow as people.

2.1 Marriage - Cohabitation

A

Cohabitation is living with a partner in a sexual relationship without being married.
Agree - No messy/expensive divorce, get to know each other before commitment, children can be brought up without marriage.
Disagree - leads to casual attitudes, “give up” when times get tough, children are best brought up in marriage - more secure.

2.2 Sexual Relationships

A

Mainstream Christian view is that sex should be between a man and a woman who are married to each other. Promiscuity is wrong “flee from sexual immorality” , Adultery is wrong “You shall not commit adultery”.

A

Anglican- sex before marriage in a relationship is okay
Catholic - sex should be in marriage - sex is to make children, and children are best raised in marriage

2.2 Sexual Relationships - Homosexuality

A

“Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does a woman; that is detestable”
Catholic - Sex is for procreation, so homosexual acts are wrong
Liberal - Jesus didn’t teach about it, he taught no to judge other, Bible is outdated

A

Nuclear families, same-sex families, single parent families, blended families
“Be fruitful and multiply”
children should receive emotional, physical and spiritual security.
All children have the right to be brought up in a secure, loving family setting.
“bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”
Faith in Jesus is needed for salvation - families should bring up children as Christians.

2.4 Support for the family in the local parish

A

A parish is a local community of Christians, often led by a priest or vicar. Shows love to neighbours, faith survives through families, marriage and families are God’s creations.

Run food banks, parent courses, marriage counselling, youth clubs, financial support.

A

For - Christians should help others in need (Parable of Sheep and Goats, Good Samaritan etc.)

Against - It should be the local government that helps people, or the extended family

A

Family planning is choosing when to have children and how many to have, usually through contraception.
Artificial - condoms, birth control pills, abortion, vasectomy
Natural - rhythm method, withdrawal

A

Artificial contraception is sinful - it violates God’s command “Be fruitful and multiply.” Only God can decide when life starts or ends, it can promote promiscuity and STIs.

A

Protects health of the mother, allows existing children to have a better standard of living, expresses love without a need for conception, no harm is done if both parties consent to using contraception - people can do what they choose
