1.4 Last Days of Jesus life
Last supper on Thursday, betrayed by Judas and arrested - found guilty of blasphemy by the Sanhedrin. He was then sent to Pontius Pilate -
sentenced him to death by crucifixion, dying the next day - Good Friday. Christians believe he rose again after days - Easter Sunday.
1.4 Last days of Jesus’ Life - Importance
Last Supper - Holy Communion - “Do this in memory of me.”
Crucifixion - Sacrificed for the atonement of sins.
Resurrection - Proves Jesus was the son of God.
1.5 Salvation
Jesus came to Earth to save humanity and was sacrificed for their sins. For Salvation, someone must follow the word of God, repent and have faith in Jesus.
Sheep and Goats - kind to the hungry, thirsty, naked, sick, etc…
1.6 Eschatology
If someone has lived a good life, repented for their sins and had faith in Jesus, then they will go to heaven - Where God is and a place of “no more death… crying or pain.”
If someone has not done the above things, then they go to hell, where they are punished for eternity.
Catholics believe in purgatory - a place where good people, who aren’t good enough to get to heaven, are cleansed of their sins before going to heaven.
1.6 Eschatology - Judgement and Importance
Christians believe that people will be judged by God, based on their deeds, some believe that those who had faith in God will also have a resurrection, but it can be described as a “spiritual body” rather than a physical one.
Importance - It gives Christians hope for a better life after this one, which helps in times of despair. It also gives their lives meaning and purpose - they have to show love to neighbour and to God.
1.7 The Problem of Evil
If God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnibenevolent, then how does evil exist? - This makes some believe that God doesn’t exist, or he is not what Christians say what he is. A Christian may also doubt their faith when faced with evil and suffering due to this problem.
1.8 Solutions to the Problem of Evil
Book of Job - Evil is part of God’s plan, God will “wipe away every tear” of those who has suffered when they reach heaven.
Free Will - God cannot stop evil caused by humanity because he does not want to violate our free will - what allows us to love him.
Growth - Suffering allows growth.
