Module 2 Last Minute Study Flashcards
Describe space limit of attention
visual clutter/ crowding: we can’t seeall items within a cluster
Describe time limit of attention
attentional blink: numbers flashing
Describe object limit of attention
multiple object tracking
How do we test general intelligence (g)
vocabulary tests and SAT testing that seeks pattern -matching, reading comprehension, math digit span, and logic
How does general intelligence specifically underlie IQ
Factor analysis- (g) is a single factor explaining some portion of performance; if you’re good at one thing (vocabulary), you’ll be proficient at another similar intelligence (reading comprehension)
Describe the biology vs environment argument of intelligence
Twin studies comparing identical twins, fraternal twins, siblings, and adopted kids shows that there is a large correlation between 100% shared genetics and 100% shared environment with higher IQ, explaining that there is a correlation between genetic influence on IQ with the environment having a role to play as well.
Is memory a monolith?
No
short term memory duration depends on
rehersal
Sensory memory becomes a short term memory through
attention
Serial position ties to which memory?
primacy– LTM encoding and retrieval
recency– STM rehearsal
