Module 2/ Cytoskeleton Flashcards
type of Cytoskeleton
Network of microtubules, microfilaments, and intermediate filaments within the cytoplasm
Roles of the cytoskeleton
-The cytoskeleton plays important roles: mechanical, structural, transport, motility and signalling functions.
-It organizes the cell structure, anchor the organelles and facilitate cellular activities.
-Organelles and enzymes can attach to the cytoskeleton and move across the cell.
-It is responsible for the maintenance and modifications of the cell’s shape (animal cells lack cell walls).
Responsibility of cytoskeleton
The cytoskeleton is responsible for the maintenance and modifications of the cell’s shape (animal cells lack cell walls): dismantled on one side of the cell and reassembled in another part.
