Module 2 - Cell Division (mitosis) Flashcards
1
Q
what are the stages of mitosis?
A
prophase
metaphase
anaphase
telophase
(cytokinisis)
2
Q
what is the overall process of mitosis?
A
process od cellular division that results in the production of 2 genetically identical daughter cells
46 chromosomes
3
Q
summarise prophase:
A
- nuclear envelope breaks down
- nucleolus breaks down
- centrosomes move to the center of the cell, forming poles
4
Q
summarise metaphase:
A
- each chromosome reaches the pole
- centrosomes form spindle fibres
- chromosomes line up on equator attatched by spindles to centromere
5
Q
summarise anaphase:
A
- chromosomes split at centomere
- chromatids move to opposite poles (centromere first)
- chromatids are pulled appart
6
Q
summarise telophase:
A
- nucleolus reforms
- nuclear envelope reforms
- spindle fibres break down
- chromatids decondense
- cytokinisis (division of cytoplasm by constriction)
