Module 2 - ATM - Essential Aerodrome Information and Braking Action Flashcards
What is essential aerodrome information?
Information concerning the condition of the movement area and associated facilities which is necessary for the safe operation of ACFT.
Who shall essential aerodrome information be provided to and with regards to timings when should it be given?
Every ACFT except when it is known that the ACFT has already received all or part of the information from other sources.
It shall be passed in sufficient time for the ACFT to make proper use of it and the hazards shall be identified as distinctly as possible.
What shall essential aerodrome information include?
- Construction or maintenance work on, or immediately adjacent to the movement area.
- Rough or broken surfaces on a RWY, TWY or APN whether marked or not.
- Snow, slush, ice or water on a RWY, TWY or APN.
- Snow banks or drifts adjacent to a RWY, TWY or APN.
- Other temporary hazards, including parked ACFT and birds on the ground and in the air.
With regards to braking action, how is the runway divided?
Into 3 sections: A, B and C
Section A always begins on the RWY with the lowest designator.
Braking action is measured on both sides of the RWY centreline and is always transmitted to the pilot in the landing or TKOF direction.
Estimated braking action for measured/calculated braking coefficient code:
- ) 0.4 and above
- ) 0.39-0.36
- ) 0.35-0.3
- ) 0.29-0.26
- ) 0.25 and below
