describe the difference between an ethical dilemma and an ethical transgression

A

Ethical dilemma-have a choice of how to act and options to fully consider/discuss. Considering what to do next. Each choice may be acceptable but leads to different consequences for client/profession/others. There may be a difference of professional opinion re best course of action.
Ethical transgression-have acted against code of professional conduct. May result in harm to client. A violation of enforceable ethical guides.
Ethical tug- a seemingly small push to act against professional guidelines which however may have significant consequences. eg in a school setting, teacher asks how a student is going.

explain the purpose of the APS Code of Ethics

A

tTo provide a set of guidelines which can be adhered to by the profession as a whole and provide guidance where situations are not clear cut. To change with the times as appropriate.
Provides a standard to be adhered to and a measure upon which can be judged. Provides the public with a framework for complaint also.
CODE OF ETHICS GENERAL PRINCIPLES:
1.Principle A;respect for the rights and dignity of people and peoples.
2. Principle B;Propriety incorporates the principles of beneficence, non-maleficence (including competence) and responsibility to clients, the profession and society
3. Principle C;Integrity reflects the need for psychologists to have good character and acknowledges the high level of trust intrinsic to their professional relationships, and impact of their conduct on the reputation of the profession.
