Module 2 Flashcards
Muscles
What are Abdominal muscles?
Rectus Abdominus
External Oblique
Internal Oblique
Transverse Abdominal
What do Abdominal musles help with?
Abdominal musles help with breathing, protect inner organs and provide postural support for the backspine.
What do obliques do?
Obliques are responsible for the rotation and flexion of the torso.
Where is the Deltoid located?
The Deltoid is a muscle on the uppermost part of the arm and on top of the shoulder.
What is the Deltoid?
A rounded triangular muscle
Where are the Pectoral muscles located?
The Pectoral muscles cover the front of the ribcage
What is the job of the Pectoral muscles?
They help to draw the forelimbs towards the chest and are used for flexion of the humerus (throwing underhand, lifting).
Where is the Trapezius located?
The Trapezius are extending over the back of the neck and shoulders.
What do the Trapezius?
They help move and tild the head and neck, shrug, steady the shoulders and lift the arms.
What is the largest muscle in the upper body?
Latissimus Dorsi
What is the strongest and biggest muscle in the body?
Gluteus Maximus
What is the function of the Gluteus Maximus?
Hip extension
Where are the Quadriceps located?
front of the thigh
How many quadriceps are there?
4
What are the quadriceps?
They are extensions of the knee joint.
What do the quadriceps help with?
They are crucial for running, jumping, squatting.
What is the Latissimus Dorsi responsible for?
It’s responsible for extension, adduction, transverse extension
Where do the Erector Spinae run?
They run vertically along the spine.
What are the Erector Spinea doing?
They are responsible to straighten and rotate the back.
They also help prevent injuries.
Where are the Biceps located?
The Biceps lie on the front of the upper arm between the shoulder and the elbow.
Where are the Triceps located?
The Triceps lie on the back of the upper arm.
How many Hamstrings are there?
3
Bicep Femoris
Bicep Semimembranosus
Bicep Semitendinosus
Where are the Hamstrings located?
The Hamstrings lie in the back of the thigh.
Name two muscle located on the calf.
Gastrocnemius
Soleus
Where does the Gastrocnemius run?
It starts behind the knee and runs down to the achilles tendon.
What actions is the Gastrocnemius responsible for?
It’s responsible for point and flex foot, as well as bending the calf behind the thigh.
What purpose does the Soleus have?
It keeps us upright while standing and therefore is in a constant fight against gravity.
