Module 2 Flashcards
Explain the meaning of the phrase semi-conservative replication
New DNA molecule compromised of one original/old strand and one new strand.
What are 2 enzymes and their functions which are involves in the replication of DNA?
DNA helicase unzips the double stranded DNA by breaking the hydrogen bonds between the strands.
DNA polymerase forms phosphodiester bonds/joins adjacent nucleotides - forms sugar-phosphate backbone.
If an organelle is made of rRNA and protein is it membrane bound?
No
What happens at the isotonic point during an osmosis in potato’s in experiment?
The movement of water into the potato cells is equal to the movement of water out of the potato cells.
What is the name of the bond that forms between two nucleotides?
Phosphodiester
In the formula C1V1=C2V2 what does each thing mean?
C1- concentration of stock solution needed
V1 - volume of stock solution needed
C2 - concentration to make
V2 - volume to make
What the percentage uncertainty equation?
( uncertainty/ value ) x 100
Name the stages of mitosis in the correct order
Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase
In what stage of meiosis does crossing over occur?
Prophase 1
In what stage of meiosis does independent random assortment occur?
Metaphase 1
What is genetic variation?
The variety of alleles - offspring will have alleles from more than one parent.
In % uncertainty question what do you do if there is more than one value?
Multiple the uncertainty by the number of values.
